An ongoing programme of Patient Safety Conversation visits takes place throughout the year to give Board members and members of the Senior Leadership Team an opportunity to find out more about a wide range of clinical services. The visits also give local staff an opportunity to highlight any recent service developments and improvements as well as discuss current issues and challenges.

Endoscopy
Professor Frances Dodd, Executive Nurse Director, recently visited the Endoscopy team at Forth Valley Royal Hospital as part of a Patient Safety Conversation visit. During the visit, the team shared their achievements in quality improvement while also highlighting some patient safety concerns.

The visiting team appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the services provided and engage with staff during a tour of the department. It was noted that while there are currently vacancies within the service, the team confirmed that they will soon be welcoming a newly appointed nurse endoscopist to further enhance the Department’s capabilities.

This visit provided valuable insights into the ongoing efforts to improve patient safety and the care provided within the Endoscopy Department.

Rapid Assessment Care Unit
Martin Fairbairn, Non-Executive Board Member and Andrew Murray, Medical Director, visited the Rapid Assessment Care Unit/Flow Centre at Forth Valley Royal Hospital as part of a Patient Safety Conversation visit.

The visiting team enjoyed an informative tour, gaining valuable insight into the services offered. During the visit, the team shared details on the success of a recent 6-week trial of an acute medic call handling service, which continued throughout the winter months.

Andrew Murray thanked the team for the outstanding service they provide and acknowledged their ongoing dedication to improving patient care and safety.

Early Pregnancy Assessment Service
Staff from the Early Pregnancy Assessment Service based within the Women and Children’s Unit at Forth Valley Royal Hospital recently hosted a patient safety conversation visit. Martin Fairbairn, Non-Executive Board Member and Elsbeth Campbell, Head of Communications enjoyed learning about the services and support provided by the local clinical team. Staff also highlighted a number of recent service developments, including the introduction of clinics on a Saturday to provide greater flexibility and respond to increasing demand.
