A Beary Fun Day at Stirling Health and Care Village

Teddy Bears Picnic

There were smiles all around at Stirling Health and Care Village as staff, patients, and visitors teamed up with the Scottish Childminding Association (SCMA) for a heartwarming Teddy Bear’s Picnic.

More than 30 children joined the fun-filled day, which included a green activity trail and a host of interactive stations run by fantastic community partners including the Royal Horticultural Society, Forth Valley Men’s Shed, The Conservation Volunteers (Volunteering Matters), and FROGS (Friends of Greenspace). From fairy houses to a hand-crafted wishing well—and even a visit from Winnie the Pooh and some honey—volunteers transformed the grounds into a magical setting.

Staff from across the site and patients from the Bellfield Centre got involved, helping to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where children could engage with healthcare teams in a positive way, outside the usual clinical environment. The event aimed to help young visitors associate hospital grounds with fun, connection, and wellbeing, rather than stress or worry.

Liz Rowlett, NHS Forth Valley Health Improvement Officer said: “Many of the children visiting had never been to this part of the site before. They were able to explore, play, and interact in a calm, welcoming space. Several childminders told us they’d be returning because they now see this area as a pleasant and inspiring place to spend time.”

Held in partnership with SCMA, the event also highlighted the newly updated Natural Health Award for Early Years, which promotes the benefits of outdoor play and nature-based activities in supporting health and wellbeing.

The success of the day lies not just in the smiles and laughter but in building bridges—between children and health services, between the natural environment and wellbeing, and between community groups working together for a shared cause. And yes, the teddy bears were very well looked after, too.
