Three of our audiology volunteers – Margaret Struthers, William Lindsay and Jim Rose recently celebrated 15 years of dedicated service to NHS Forth Valley – a fantastic milestone and achievement.

Since 2010, Margaret, William and Jim have played a vital role in supporting hearing aid users across Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire, providing expert assistance with repairs and maintenance. Their commitment has helped keep thousands of people connected to the world around them – often easing isolation and improving quality of life.

The audiology volunteer service now includes over 20 trained volunteers, who are instrumental in delivering the service as their experience, compassion and technical know-how are invaluable. Many of the volunteers, including this trio, are hearing aid users themselves.

Volunteer-led support clinics run daily at our community hospitals in Stirling and Falkirk, and now also take place at Alloa Library every Wednesday afternoon. These sessions are more than just drop-in clinics – they are lifelines for patients and offer reassurance, friendly conversation and expert guidance.

Over the years, our audiology team has received local and national recognition, including awards from the British Academy of Audiology (BAA). Their work has even extended into training for nursing and care home staff, reinforcing how vital a well-functioning hearing aid can be to both health and wellbeing.

A massive thank you to Margaret, William and Jim for 15 years of incredible service. Your dedication continues to make a lasting difference for patients and the audiology team alike.
