NHS Forth Valley’s Research and Development Unit has become the first in Europe to open a new clinical trial investigating a novel immunotherapy treatment for patients with advanced or recurrent lung cancer.

The trial, led locally by Dr Nicola Steele, Consultant Oncologist, is supported by Dr Ben Fulton, Jennifer Wilson, and Professor Euan Cameron, Clinical Director for Research and Development. The study offers new hope for patients with limited treatment options and is now open to eligible patients attending the lung cancer service.

Dr Steele said: “We recognise the critical importance of research in improving clinical outcomes for our patients. Evidence shows that hospitals actively involved in research consistently achieve better outcomes across various specialties. With greater patient engagement, we hope to enhance services for the broader NHS Forth Valley community.”

Professor Cameron added: “We want to use this opportunity to raise awareness about the vital research work we do here in Forth Valley and highlight the importance of research participation. Together, we can make a difference in advancing the treatment and care for those affected by lung cancer.”

This marks a key milestone in NHS Forth Valley’s commitment to advancing cancer care and developing innovative treatments.
