A recent call for support on social media has sparked an incredible response from the local community, bringing comfort and kindness to patients across our hospitals.
Following a Facebook appeal by Ashleigh Clubb, a Project Support Officer in the Corporate Services team, generous crafters have come forward in their hundreds to create handmade items for patients, including knitted and crocheted syringe driver and telemetry bags. Alongside these, more than 1,000 small knitted hearts have been lovingly made for palliative care patients and their families.
The response has been described as “fantastic”, with donations continuing to arrive and a growing collection now ready to be shared more widely.
These thoughtful, handmade items are set to be distributed across wards, helping to provide not only practical support but also emotional comfort at what can be a very difficult time. Small gestures like these can make a big difference, offering reassurance to patients and their loved ones.
The initiative also highlights the powerful connection between the hospital and the local community, with people coming together to support patients they may never meet.
There is currently a significant supply available, including over 20 unopened boxes, as well as hundreds of knitted hearts and bags suitable for both men and women. Wards and departments are warmly encouraged to get in touch and request items for their patients.
This incredible effort is a reminder of the compassion that exists both within our services and in the communities we serve. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has taken the time to knit, crochet, donate and support this initiative, your kindness is making a real difference.
