The ICU Heart and Sole girls – Alison Ward, Sharon Molloy, Kimberley Petrie and Michelle Coles – found themselves at the top of Ben Nevis recently, as part of a 96 strong team from Scotland and England, raising money for mental health charities.
Although the four had no real experience in hillwalking, they clocked up steps in the months beforehand, walking the Ochil hills and some of them bagging a few Munros.
With Covid-19 making it an especially difficult year for many people, the team chose to raise money for a local mental health charity in Falkirk, FADMH and their fundraising efforts resulted in a grand total of around £2,500.
Describing the event as an amazing experience, Michelle Coles, added: “There was so much positivity and comradeship on the day of the climb. It was certainly a great way to be at the summit, freezing cold in snow, taking a deep breath and releasing our emotions.
“We were privileged to be wearing t-shirts symbolic to the larger group, ours were personalised with an NHS rainbow on the back and a snowdrop on the sleeve in memory of every person we had cared for in ICU during the pandemic.”
