Horseman, gentleman farmer and jazz saxophonist, just a few of the accomplishments attributed to Consultant Ophthalmologist Angus Scott, who retired recently after a career which saw him instrumental in developing the ophthalmology service, as well as setting up the Forth Valley Sensory Centre.
A true generalist as well as corneal specialist, paediatric ophthalmologist and adult strabismologist, Angus, who was clinical lead for 10 years, also undertook a major training role.
He was an examiner with the Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow and his long-term dedication was also reflected in the fact he was responsible for training three of his current NHS Forth Valley consultant colleagues. He also trained ANPs in lid surgery, oversaw undergraduate teaching and developed the Forth Valley formulary for dry eyes.
Angus had a keen interest in corneal grafts and transplants, and was a member of the Organ Donation Committee as well as the Ethics Committee. Among his retirement gifts was a subscription to music software to develop his saxophone skills.
