Mr Chris Rodger, Consultant General Surgeon, who has recently been appointed as NHS Forth Valley’s new Clinical Director for Quality, tells us more about this new role and what he hopes to achieve.
He said: “This is an exciting new post for both me and Forth Valley. It is a fantastic strategic opportunity being directly involved in the delivery of the Health Board’s Quality Strategy and provides the platform to positively influence the organisational culture with quality at the heart of everything we do.
“We all want to do our best for patients but often work in the “real world”, where we are busy, stretched and short staffed, leaves us feeling that we don’t. I want all colleagues to feel that they have the ability and support to, not only deliver the best care they can, but also to make the kind of changes to their services that they know will provide improvements for patients.
“We have great people here in Forth Valley, with the passion, knowledge and ideas that, with the right tools and support, can provide the best care and experience for patients. We need to make sure that we make the most of this valuable resource, and support and use it properly. I look forward to working with these people and teams over the next few years.
“I am also passionate about the importance of staff wellbeing and feeling valued and fulfilled at work. There is clear evidence that if we look after our staff and colleagues, patients benefit. There is an emphasis on this in the Quality Strategy and I look forward to being directly involved in how we deliver such an important part of it.”
