Engaging, informative and fun! Three little words that summed up learning sessions delivered by the Improvement Academy which began in May 2023. Since then, 53 members of staff across NHS Forth Valley and both local Health and Social Care Partnerships have been trained.
The Improvement Academy was created by the Quality Improvement team in response to feedback from previous education sessions. The hope is that this redesigned training will allow staff protected time away from their clinical and non-clinical areas to allow for rich learning.
The two-day course at Forth Valley College focused on both personal development and the principles of Quality Improvement (QI). Feedback from those attending was very positive.
- “The modules were presented in a clear and engaging way and I really enjoyed the interactive exercises and different examples. The course has definitely helped influence how I look at different tasks within my workload and given me confidence to try out some QI tools, which I never would have used before.”
Lindsay Millard, PA
- “The sessions gave me a fantastic grounding on the principles of QI and the confidence to use the tools to support service development. It offered networking opportunities and created a real buzz – with a touch of healthy competition thrown in.”
Judith Rooney, Service Manager
- “It made a huge difference being off site and it was also useful for networking. It was obvious that many of the staff who attended all had ideas which they were keen to progress and there was a great buzz of inspiration and motivation to take the QI process forward.”
Cath Swan, Clinical Nurse Educator
Sessions are scheduled once per month, up to and including April 2024 (excluding December 2023), and the aim is to train over 200 members of staff by the end of this period.
The Improvement Academy is open to all staff so anyone interested in attending should check the future dates on the Staff Intranet to book a place or contact the Quality Improvement Team at fv.fvquality@nhs.scot
