After over 35 years of NHS service, the majority of them spent in Forth Valley, Jonathan Procter, Director of Facilities & Infrastructure, has taken his final curtain call following a well-deserved retirement.

Jonathan joined NHS Forth Valley as Finance Director of the former Stirling and Falkirk NHS having previously worked in NHS Lanarkshire for 12 years as Head of Finance.

During this time, he was the financial lead for a number of key areas including the development of Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Patient Access and Waiting Times and Digital and eHealth.

He oversaw the development of what is now known as the Facilities & Infrastructure Directorate and was incredibly proud of the work the team do to support the organisation and, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic. They also led on the development of a number of new healthcare facilities including Stirling Health and Care Village and the new Doune Health Centre.

Jonathan was known for his long-standing passion for musical theatre, one that he hopes to continue in his retirement. During his stage career he has had the privilege of performing in leading roles on the King’s Theatre in Glasgow as well as many other ‘career’ highlights across the West and Central Scotland. He recently received a 40 year, long service recognition award this year from the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA).

Music runs in the family as Jonathan’s late father was also a great musician, a trained operatic singer who appeared in many Gilbert and Sullivan operatic productions during his life.

Jonathan explained: “He had a wonderful baritone voice, and you could hear it echo throughout the house when he sang. He had a cherished mustard coloured waistcoat which and, as a tribute, I have managed to work the waistcoat into the costume plot for just about every production I have been involved in since my father passed.

“It’s like having him with on the stage with me and I’m so proud to wear it in his memory. The waistcoat has actually got quite a following with many of my compatriots saying it should receive a long service award in its own right!”

In terms of future plans, Jonathan and his family have a young Labrador called Daisy who he says will absolutely keep him on my toes as he strives to match her boundless energy. He also confesses to a second mid-life crisis following the purchase of another convertible car.

Paying tribute to his team he said: “I am proud of each and every one of them and although I shall miss everyone I am sure I’ll get over it as I’ll be too busy with all the other stuff!”
