Most people who spent time and effort in growing their long hair would dread the thought of having it chopped off, but one member of staff is doing just that to raise money for a good cause.
Karla Mallis, Assistant Patient Flow Coordinator at Forth Valley Royal Hospital is set to lose her flowing locks at the end of May 2024 to help raise money for the Little Princess Trust. The charity, which provides real hair wigs, free of charge to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatments or to other conditions, is one of the largest fundraisers of childhood cancer research in the UK.
Karla explained: “My brother Cameron and I both love doing events to raise money for charities that make a difference to people. Hair is something that we take for granted and I would love to share mine with someone who has lost their own hair due to illness.
“It costs £700 to provide one young person with a wig. £1000 can buy new drugs for research testing and £10000 can help measure the long-term effects of drugs on children.
“Any donations, large or small would be hugely appreciated and can help change a young person’s life.”
