Improving Facilities for Patients with Dementia

281

Staff from Ward 4 in the Mental Health Unit at Forth Valley Royal Hospital were delighted to have recently completed building works to improve the environment for patients living with dementia.

These include the creation of a large new sitting area complete with soundproofing and reminiscence cabinets, a sensory room with skylights and specialist equipment and an enhanced entry system to the ward.

The new sitting room was officially opened by Esther Morris, who recently retired from NHS Forth Valley after many years working as a Business Manager for Mental Health and Learning Disability Services. Prior to her retirement, she was integral to managing this programme of work and was therefore invited back to see the fruits of her labour and undertake the official opening.
