A number of local staff recently undertook the marathon distance Macmillan Rob Roy Mighty Hike from Callander to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The team, who called themselves the Walking Wounded, consisted of Claudine MacMurdo, Laura Crockert, Lisa O’Hare , Jennifer Szotek, Karen MacFarlane, Alison McBride, and Jennifer Bennie. They pledged to raise £2,500 and so far, have raised more than £3,850 with donations still coming in.
Laura Crockert, Programme Manager for the Corporate Portfolio Management Office, said “I’m sure Karen MacFarlane will be first to remind everyone this was a hike and not a walk, but we did it! Yes, it was a challenge but with one foot in front of another we made it to the finish line in 11 hours 30 minutes. Excluding the rest breaks to rehydrate, change our tape, socks and deal with the blisters, this equated to just over 9 hours walking time on a day which of course had to be warm and dry – probably one of the few hot dry days this year!
“We would like to thank all our friends and colleagues who have donated already, and while we did not have a single specific reason as a group for participating, we all had our own personal reasons for raising funds for Macmillan. I’m sure everyone can agree that cancer has touched the lives of many, and most will have awareness of the support Macmillan provide for people and their families living with cancer, so it seemed appropriate to take up this challenge to help give something back to help ensure the support from Macmillan can continue.”
