A Ray of Hope for Maggie’s

The artistic endeavours of porter Barry Shaw will soon be on show again at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, with his latest artwork called Hope.

Visitors to the atrium will see a picture of his eye inset with images of medical staff, which will be placed on the Rainbow Wall alongside a print gifted by world famous artist Damien Hirst.

Barry has already created a series of drawings that portray key NHS workers alongside famous superheroes.

The inspiration behind his latest work was the PPE which had to be worn by all nursing and medical staff in ICU and was designed digitally.

It took several months to complete and involved 9,700 pencil strokes, with Barry himself pleased with the end result.

He said: “I think it’s fantastic but it was a bit daunting as I was designing it as an A3 poster and could only see it the size of the Ipad when I was working on it.”

Prints of the drawing are now on sale with proceeds going to Maggie’s Forth Valley.
