A Royal Day Out for ED Volunteer Graham

30

A familiar face in the Emergency Department, volunteer Graham McAra and his wife attended the recent King’s Garden Party, proudly representing the Retired and Senior Volunteering Programme (RSVP).

Graham described the event as a “fabulous day and a real privilege to represent RSVP and be invited”, adding that it was also a wonderful family occasion.

Graham has been a dedicated volunteer with RSVP for 12 years, supporting the Children’s Ward before becoming part of the Emergency Department team, where he has now volunteered for eight years. Reflecting on his journey, he explained that he joined RSVP after a health scare as a way of giving something back to the NHS – and quickly found it to be the perfect opportunity.

Known for his friendly manner and sense of humour, Graham helps with everything from making a much-needed cup of tea to collecting prescriptions from the hospital’s pharmacy. “Anything to support the staff and patients,” he said with a smile.

Proud and humbled to be part of the Emergency Department team, Graham added: “It is so wonderful to be part of a fabulous team of people who work extremely hard caring for and supporting patients and visitors at what can be a difficult time in their lives.”
