Accolade for Breast Pain Clinic

One of our Breast Surgery Surgical Care Practitioners, Marie Stein, presented a poster at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh Faculty of Perioperative Care Annual Conference held in Birmingham and came second which is a fantastic achievement.

Marie’s poster showed a test of change we have implemented through Centre for Sustainable Delivery to create a specific ‘breast pain’ clinic for patients who present in primary care with breast pain but a normal breast examination and no other breast symptoms.

The aim of this was to reduce waiting times for our ‘one stop’ cancer clinic which these patients were traditionally referred to.

As a result, we saw a significant reduction in our waiting times and 81% of these patients were able to avoid attending the hospital as they were given a telephone appointment instead.
