Health and social care professionals in Forth Valley are being encouraged to promote global health and global citizenship. It follows the launch of the Scottish Global Health Co-ordination Unit, which helps support existing projects and identify opportunities for new partnerships and volunteering.
Many projects are already under way, including links between Scottish NHS Boards and hospitals in Africa and elsewhere to support training, research and donations of equipment. Collectively this work is making a positive difference to healthcare in developing countries.
Best practice and networking opportunities were shared at a recent conference in Glasgow at the Royal College of Surgeons, and anyone in Forth Valley interested in global healthcare or volunteering should contact our local champion, Dr Paul Woolman on 01324 616057 or email paul.woolman@nhs.net Paul also recently organised a meeting for staff to discuss ways to become involved and find out more about the central support available.
