A feathered family recently brought unexpected joy to patients, visitors and staff in the Wallace Suite at the Bellfield Centre, Stirling Health and Care Village.
The suite, which cares for 32 patients, found itself with an additional, though very welcome, responsibility when a pair of wood pigeons built a nest in a tree just outside one of the windows.
From their beds and visiting areas, patients and families were treated to a rare, close-up view of the nest and its two chicks as they grew. The daily observations soon became a shared talking point, helping to spark conversation, connection and moments of calm.
Staff Nurse Karen Law said: “Interest grew so quickly that we created a ‘window within the window’ to help patients know exactly where to look. We even named each member of the bird family – Mum – Wendy, Dad – William and Chicks – Chester and Poppy.”
