Bringing Colour To CAMHS

An example of artwork already carried out at the physiotherapy unit at The Bungalow, part of the Women and Children’s department.

An artist is being commissioned to work with staff and young people to bring a touch of colour and creativity to premises used by our local Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Stirling Health and Care Village and The Manor in Falkirk.

The commission is for artwork to accompany the patient journey across different areas of the service, from welcoming them as they arrive, providing a reassuring picture whilst in treatment areas, and to reinforce positive messages and experiences as they leave or wait.

Artlink Central Director, Kevin Harrison, explained: “Key areas to develop artwork will include reception, treatment rooms, corridors and waiting areas. The expected outcome will also be different across the two sites. For Stirling, the commission is for semi-permanent, surface-based artwork, while for The Manor in Falkirk, a more temporary solution will be more suitable, such as framed or otherwise easily movable work. The main aim is to achieve the right balance in the style of work to suit the various different age groups who use CAMHS.”

CAMHS is provided by NHS Forth Valley for children and young people aged between 0-18. The service involves multidisciplinary teams who have expertise in the assessment, care and treatment of children and young people experiencing serious mental health problems. Specialist services for those at risk and with specific conditions are also provided.

It is hoped that the new artwork will be unveiled in August 2022.
