Changing the Landscape for Staff Wellbeing

1

In autumn last year, Mackenzie Construction shared details on social media about a grant to support workplaces affected by the upgrading of the Canal. Frances Burke, a physiotherapist with the Neurorehabilitation Team based at Falkirk Community Hospital, applied for the grant alongside colleagues Stuart Wilson, Fiona Campbell and Valerie Kotkin-Smith.

The team were delighted to hear from Construction Director Mark Wilson that their application had been successful. Mark visited the site and worked with Frances to plan an outdoor seating area for community staff based at Falkirk.

Staff wellbeing is a clear priority for the Neurorehabilitation Team and having a relaxing outdoor space where colleagues can sit together, enjoy good weather and make the most of their break times is seen as hugely beneficial. The team works hard and collaboratively across Forth Valley, supporting patients throughout their rehabilitation journey in the community.

Site Manager Zak Ward, along with Philip O’Rafferty and Walter Gibb from Estates, met with Frances to discuss and approve the layout and design. Zak and his team were highly professional throughout the project and a pleasure to work with.

An otherwise disused piece of ground has now been transformed into a welcoming seating area, providing a valuable addition to the workplace. The team would like to formally thank everyone involved for their contribution to this project. There are also plans to fundraise or apply for further wellbeing grants to continue developing the space.

The team now looks forward to warmer, drier days and the opportunity to enjoy a cuppa outside together.
