NHS Forth Valley’s Children’s Speech and Language Therapy Service was recently showcased in a Public Health Scotland podcast, highlighting the team’s innovative work to improve outcomes for children and families across the area.
The podcast explored how the service has been redesigned to place a greater emphasis on prevention, early intervention and reducing health inequalities. It also highlighted the importance of partnership working, with staff collaborating closely with colleagues in health, education, social work and community organisations to provide joined-up support for children and young people.
The discussion focused on how speech and language therapy can contribute to wider population health goals by helping children develop the communication skills they need to thrive at home, in education and within their communities.
By working collaboratively across services and intervening at an earlier stage, the team is helping to ensure that children and families receive the right support at the right time, while also addressing some of the factors which can contribute to inequalities in health and wellbeing.
The podcast provided an opportunity to share NHS Forth Valley’s approach with a national audience and showcase the valuable contribution speech and language therapists make in supporting children’s development and improving long-term outcomes.
The feature also recognised the commitment of staff and partners who continue to work together to deliver innovative, preventative services that support children and families across Forth Valley.
