After an impressive 41-year career in nursing, David Carruthers, a much-valued friend and colleague, is retiring.
David’s career began at Bellsdyke Hospital, and from there, he worked in various hospitals across England and even spent some time in Saudi Arabia. By the age of 26, David had already achieved the role of nurse manager, showcasing his leadership skills early on.
David found his long-term home at HMP Polmont, where he has worked for over 30 years as a practitioner nurse. During this time, he has made countless contributions and accomplished many things. In 2005, he was honoured with a Butler’s Trust Award, which he received from Anne, Princess Royal, representing HMP Polmont. One of his proudest moments was receiving a commendation from the Governor for saving the life of a young person in need of immediate care.
Throughout his career, David has been a dedicated mentor to numerous junior nurses and students, offering guidance and support. He is affectionately known as “The Captain” by his many friends at Polmont.
David will be deeply missed by all who have had the pleasure of working with him and his colleagues would like to express their heartfelt thanks for his unwavering dedication and service at Polmont.
