Big successes have been reported by the Day Medicine Unit who have successfully implemented a Value Management approach led by Healthcare Improvement Scotland.
Working with a coach, regular multidisciplinary huddles have helped the team identify areas for improvement, test different approaches to collecting staff and patient experience information and review finance data regularly.
For example, nearly £70,000 has been saved by changing how a drug was administered.
The programme has led to safer discharge, less need for patients to attend hospital for treatment and a reduction in Did Not Attends.
The team is one of a number across Scotland who are taking part in a collaborative which works in partnership NHS Education for Scotland and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.
