Developing a New Minority Ethnic Network

Staff from across the organisation recently participated in the first NHS Forth Valley Minority Ethnic Network Engagement Event which was held at Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus.

Colleagues were welcomed by two of the event organisers, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Dr Sapna Maheshwari and Linda Donaldson, HR Director.

The event began with presentations from Hina Sheikh from NHS Lanarkshire and Rakiya Suleiman from NHS Lothian who shared stories and experiences of establishing Minority Ethnic Networks in their local areas.

Alison Carmichael from the Scottish Government then who outlined the work of the National Minority Ethnic Network and NHS Forth Valley’s Chief Executive, Cathie Cowan outlined our local commitment to creating a new Minority Ethnic Network in NHS Forth Valley.

Participants took part in a range of afternoon workshops, facilitated by Learning and Organisational Development colleagues, to discuss next steps. Feedback from staff included:

“Felt valued to finally have this space. Keep up the good work.”

“Thanks for organising an insightful event… I benefitted from the knowledge sharing”

“Brilliant event and excellent speakers. Nice to meet in person and network too. Thank you.”

“Great day. Look forward to contributing to the network and being involved in improving conditions for minority ethnic colleagues.”

Event evaluation forms have been sent to those who attended.  For those who were unable to attend and wish to share their views on how they would like to see the Minority Ethnic Network develop locally, please complete the following questionnaire.
