E-bikes… Gear Up For A Trial

Unison branch secretary in NHS Forth Valley, Karren Morrison, has now taken on another role, that of Cycling Ambassador.

The Occupational Therapist says she has pedalled her way to better physical and mental health by using an e-bike to commute to work and is now encouraging others to jump into the saddle.

Karren was able to trial an e-bike for 90 days through a scheme run in partnership with Forth Environment Link, a charity based in Falkirk, and is now starring in a new video.

Urging colleagues to take to two wheels, Karren explained: “I would really encourage everyone to try an e-bike, it makes cycling a real pleasure while still keeping all the fitness and health benefits of a normal bike. Commuting to work on an e bike has helped me save money, keep fit, feel great and I cycle further faster and for longer than I would have ever thought.”

Since April 2021, NHS Forth Valley has been using its fleet of 20 e-bikes to provide free 90 day e-bike trials for staff. Anyone who wants to get on board will also be equipped with:

  • Accessories including a helmet, lock and pannier bag
  • Wraparound support from the FEL team
  • Access to the Bike Medic roadside recovery service

Anyone interested in a trial should email fv.activetravel@nhs.scot.
