The Clinical Research department is delighted to introduce the new Research & Development Team Lead, Emma McDonough who has recently joined NHS Forth Valley.
- How did you become involved in research? I am passionate about research, having started out in a research governance role in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital when I decided that my future career path was not in operational management in the bus industry, where I was working. I have since held posts both within R&D and within a research delivery team in both the NHS and academia, most recently working as the Research Manager at Public Health Scotland. Prior to that, I was a Sponsor Representative in the Research & Innovation team in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde.
- Professional fun fact: I was part of the research team to deliver the first research study to evaluate the acceptability of different sized 3D printed placebo tablets in children and young people (aged 4-12 years).
- Personal fun fact: When I am on annual leave, I enjoy holidaying in Tenerife and have been there over 30 times.
- Why is research important to you? Research is essential to provide the best-evidenced quality care and to transform services and improve outcomes for patients. Therefore, ensuring equity of access to research for all is vital to enable clinical research to improve the health of the whole population.
- Who are the Research and Development Team: The R&D team are responsible for the regulatory compliance and management of all research taking place in NHS Forth Valley, both clinical and academic. They support both experienced and new researchers in the safe and effective delivery of high-quality research trials, from initial discussions and set-up, all the way through to closeout and archiving.
