Family members caring for patients with dementia were given extra support as part of a new project in Ward B21.

Although NHS Forth Valley already operated flexible visiting hours, the new initiative provided opportunities for relatives and carers to stay, if they wish, to provide support or help with mealtimes and personal care.

The pilot was part of John’s Campaign, a national initiative which aims to provide the best possible care for people with dementia when they are admitted to hospital. The ward also bought two buddy chairs to allow a family member to stay overnight, where appropriate.
