Three assessors who carried out a recent UKAS ISO 15189 inspection in the Microbiology Department at Forth Valley Royal Hospital rated it highly. The laboratory was assessed against more than 470 quality and competence standards and performed extremely well with only one non-conformance highlighted. Excellent feedback was received from the UKAS team particularly in relation to the standard of training provided and the skills of local staff.
Laboratories Quality and Training Manager Paula Wilson led the UKAS Team through their visit. She said: “I am immensely proud of the high quality of service that our laboratories provide to a wide range of colleagues. This is achieved through the hard work and dedication of the whole team. Achieving UKAS Accreditation provides confidence that local patients are receiving the best possible care and that is the most important thing.”
Medical laboratories provide vital test results that inform treatment decisions and can improve health outcomes. Our other laboratory specialties are currently preparing for their own upcoming inspection visits and aim to replicate this high standard of quality and assurance all areas.
