Graham Ellis, Deputy Chief Medical Officer at the Scottish Government, visited NHS Forth Valley at the end of November 2023 to discuss the ongoing work to embed the principles of Realistic Medicine across the organisation.

Realistic Medicine aims to involve patients in decisions about their care and encourages all healthcare professionals to discuss treatment options, along with their benefits and disadvantages, so that patients can make informed choices about what’s right for them.

During the meeting, staff provided an overview of a wide range of initiatives underway in Forth Valley. Key speakers including Jenny Hynes, Julie Mardon, Ewan Jack, Helen McPherson and Samantha Goudie, Programme Lead, shared insights into how Realistic Medicine was working on the ground. The visit was a great opportunity to showcase our dedication to integrating Realistic Medicine into all aspects of our work and highlight excellent progress across NHS Forth Valley.
