After a nursing and midwifery career spanning more than 46 years, Clinical Nurse Manager for the Renal Unit at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Jane Rodriguez has retired and now plans to become a lady who lunches and spends more quality time with her family.

Jane worked for eight years as a midwife in Abu Dhabi, then moved to become a renal nurse at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary before joining the former Falkirk and District Royal Infirmary in 1999.

She very quickly took on a leadership role and, starting with just 6 patients, she has grown the Renal Unit and services here in NHS Forth Valley up to a capacity of 130 patients. Haemodialysis services and the outpatient clinics run simultaneously in the Unit, which is believed to be one of the most up-to-date technological renal unit in Scotland, having gone paperless with electronic prescribing for more than 16 years.

Among her other retirement goals are gardening and travelling.

Jane is pictured with Head of Nursing Patrick Rafferty who popped in to her retiral tea to say goodbye. She will be much missed by colleagues across the hospital and beyond.
