LFD Testing – Tips and Advice From Local Staff

LFD test kits are available for all NHS staff to help keep you, your colleagues, patients and your family and friends safe as many people can have the virus without showing any symptoms. This is particularly important as restrictions continue to ease and people are able to meet up indoors (and hug!) for the first time this year.

A number of local staff participating in the Covid-19 testing programme have shared feedback on why they decided to take part in the programme and offered tips and advice.

To find out more about the Staff Covid-19 testing programme and obtain a supply of test kits speak to your line manager or visit the staff intranet. To hear more feedback and tips from local staff visit here.

Remember to:

  • Register your results on the National Testing Portal as this makes it easier and quicker to report your test results. Remember to include the location where you are based.
  • Report your test results – positive or negative – on the National Covid-19 Testing Portal. This provides a complete picture of Covid-19 and if you don’t report your test results they won’t be included in our local testing figures which makes our uptake levels look far lower than they actually are.
  • Repeat your test twice a week, every week.

“I was keen to participate in testing as it’s reassuring to staff and patients alike that we are testing regularly and are negative. I only wish we had them earlier doing the first wave.

“The main benefit is the knowledge that you are not spreading the virus asymptomatically.

“I would encourage my fellow colleagues to test as it gives you reassurance especially for going home to your own family.

“My only tip is to try and relax as much as possible. Doing it regularly you become more efficient.”

Helena Marshall, Interim General Manager and Senior Midwife

“Following SG guidance for non-patient staff to participate in the Asymptomatic Covid-19 testing using the Lateral Flow Device I was very pleased to register for this.

“Having the reassurance this programme will aim to help not only my workplace but within the community in reducing rates. On a personal level participating, taking part will aid to protect people at a higher risk of infection.

“I found the portal easy and quick to use and with the recent upgrade I do not have to re-enter my details.”
