NHS Forth Valley’s innovative simulation work has been in the spotlight across Europe in recent months, with invitations to present at several major international and national patient safety conferences.

As an invited international speaker at the European Patient Safety Foundation Conference, Clinical Director of Integration Julie Mardon shared the remarkable progress of NHS Forth Valley’s transformative simulation service. The presentation highlighted a number of key projects, improvement data, and the impact of our Simulation Safety Club – an initiative strengthened by the ongoing support of senior leaders across the organisation. NHS Forth Valley, in partnership with the Scottish Simulation Centre, continues to lead the way in advancing simulation-based safety and improvement.

The conference also offered an opportunity to present our NAP Club work as part of a dedicated ‘Fighting Fatigue’ workshop, attracting interest from colleagues across Europe.

Following this, NHS Forth Valley’s expertise was showcased at the Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare, the UK’s national professional body for simulation in healthcare. At the annual conference in Bournemouth, two workshops were delivered focusing on the practical application of transformative simulation.

The first was a full-day pre-conference masterclass on debriefing transformative simulations, supporting participants to deepen their skills and strengthen practice across the wider simulation community.

The second workshop, delivered jointly with industry partners, provided the first live trial of a new AI-driven simulation scenario design tool, aimed at enhancing the way transformative simulation is planned and delivered.

The international recognition continued with an invitation to be a plenary speaker at the Norwegian Patient Safety Conference in Oslo, one of the largest patient safety gatherings in Europe, with more than 3,000 participants (over 1,500 attending in person and the remainder online). Presenting NHS Forth Valley’s work on such a significant platform was a proud moment, and the positive reception reflected the growing international interest in our approach.

These high-profile invitations highlight the reputation NHS Forth Valley has built as a leader in transformative simulation, education and patient safety, both nationally and internationally.
