Kevin McCabe took part in this year’s London marathon – his first-ever marathon – in a challenge that held deep personal and physical significance.
He undertook the marathon to raise awareness of deafness and vital funds for the West Scotland Deaf Children’s Society, a charity that supports deaf children and their families through events, resources and a strong community network.
Kevin’s motivation was personal as his son, Max, was born profoundly deaf, an experience that introduced the family to a completely new and unfamiliar world, as is the case for more than 90% of deaf children who are born to hearing parents.
As a powerful symbol of his support and connection with his son’s journey, Kevin had tattoos of Max’s cochlear implants inked onto his head.
Through his training and marathon effort, Kevin aimed not only to raise funds but also to share his family’s story, increase awareness of deafness and support other families navigating similar experiences.
