Making A Stand For Oncology

One of the most thoughtful and original gifts received by the oncology department at Forth Valley Royal Hospital is a set of wig stands, lovingly crafted by a patient as a thank you for his cancer treatment.

Wig Stands
Archie Scott lovingly crafted a set of wig stands as a thank you for his cancer treatment.

Archie Scott, who has turned his hobby into a small business, Ochil Woodcraft, said following his own experience with cancer and attending the unit, he wished to give something back, not only as a way of thanks but also to promote the message that getting checked early provides a better chance of successful treatment.

The department say they are delighted and grateful for the donation which they are sure will be well received by patients.

Mr Scott, who creates some beautiful woodcraft has recently won two top awards for his carving in a Canadian competition in which 12 countries took part with 200 entrants. His ‘Three Lilies’ received a first prize and Best in Division, and an ash-carved leaves bowl gained a second rosette.

One of his latest triumphs is an intricate carving based on the work of Girling Gibbons, master carver of the 16th century.
