Martin Goes from Intern to Employee

1155

Intern Martin Munro who has been taking part in Project SEARCH, a one-year programme to help young adults with a learning disability or autism, has now secured a permanent job with Serco as a domestic storeman.

The programme has been running at Forth Valley Royal Hospital for several years as part of a partnership between Serco, Forth Valley College, Falkirk Council and NHS Forth Valley.

Martin says staff made him welcome from the very beginning and were most supportive, and team leaders and management always encouraged him. Before securing a permanent job, Martin worked as a porter and in the hospital mailroom and was supported by a buddy throughout the scheme. He said it was good to get the skills and experience of a real job as it helped his confidence grow.

The next Project SEARCH programme starts in August 2023 – for further information should contact Forth Valley College on 01324 403000.
