A Stirling community psychiatric nurse was chosen to be Chieftain at this year’s Bridge of Allan games after organisers searched for a Covid-19 hero to taken on the prestigious role. Martin Lowe, described as one in a million, was nominated by student mental health nurse Debbie Mulholland.
Martin has been a nurse since 2008 and has worked at Livilands Resource Centre in Stirling since 2015. He was Debbie’s practice supervisor during her placement there. In her nomination, Debbie described Martin as ‘one in a million’ who took time off from his own job to support her in every way possible with daily phone calls and texts when her mother became unwell. Martin, his family and his team also supported her when her mother sadly passed away.
The Bridge of Allan games included all the traditional attractions such as pipe bands, Highland dancing and throwing the hammer. Martin, who was surprised to be chosen for the honour, was able to witness Debbie at the Games, where she was competing with the Camelon and District Pipe Band.
