The Clinical Research Department is pleased to confirm the appointment of Dr Euan Cameron, Consultant Respiratory Physician, as our new Clinical Director for Research & Development. Here he shares an insight into how he became involved in research, why research is important as well as a few fun facts.
- How did you become involved in research? I have been actively involved in research projects since 2009 beginning with my PhD and on appointment as a consultant, cancer related trials, asthma trials and, more recently, Covid-19 studies.
- Why is research important to you? Research underpins everything we do in medicine and surgery. It drives development and improves outcomes. Healthcare professionals at their core want to do things better every day. Research facilitates that need. High quality research improves healthcare efficiency, producing resource benefits which can be recycled across specialities.
- Professional fun fact: I once fell off my chair in the consulting room in front of a patient. My children find this endlessly funny.
- Personal fun fact: I can catch freshwater turtles with my bare hands.
- Special recognition: As part of the SIREN study group, we achieved publication of our data in The New England Journal of Medicine and The Lancet. These are two of the most high-profile medical journals in the world. It endorses the work that was achieved by the research team here at NHS Forth Valley and demonstrates the impact our work has.
