NHS Forth Valley Lead Resuscitation Officer Dave Williams has been appointed as a Member of the Order of St John in the Priory of Scotland. The honour recognises his notable and committed voluntary service in training members of the public and local groups in bystander CPR.

The Order of St John is an Order of Chivalry of the British Crown, with origins dating back to the 11th Century. It operates in over 40 countries worldwide through charitable organisations including St John Scotland, St John Ambulance and the St John Eye Hospital.

Admittance to the Order is approved by His Majesty King Charles III following a submission from the Prior of Scotland after careful consideration of nominations.

Dave has previously been awarded the Long Service Medal for many years of volunteering with St John Ambulance in England. During this time, he served as a Clinical Lead, emergency ambulance crew and first aid instructor. Having taken up his current role at NHS Forth Valley in 2016, he did not hesitate to start volunteering with St John Scotland.

The charity supports communities to install public access defibrillators by providing advice, funding and training. St John Scotland also assists Mountain Rescue teams, First Responders and Patient Transport services.

Dave explained: “Through the Save a Life for Scotland network, we are committed to equipping people with the skills and confidence to perform CPR until a defibrillator or ambulance arrives.

I am extremely grateful for this recognition and for the support and encouragement from my wife, Kirsten.”

Dave will be presented with his medal at the Investiture Service in June.
