Pharmacy Team Praised For Can-Do Attitude

The pharmacy team at Forth Valley Royal Hospital have been praised for their ‘can-do’ attitude in making sure that patients with Covid-19 who require healthcare treatment get their medicines as quickly as possible.

This includes the recent introduction of new antibody and antiviral treatments for those at highest risk.

Jayne Povey, Lead Pharmacy Technician in Pharmacy Distribution, said: “The purchasing, storage and distribution team have ensured the availability and supply of Covid-19 medicines throughout the pandemic, reacting to changes in demand at extremely short notice.

“We have also supported the Acute Assessment Unit and the Intensive Care Unit at their busiest times to help manage their medicine supplies to ensure continuity of care for our patients within Forth Valley. The team has worked tirelessly to ensure that every area we supply has received their medicines in a timely manner. I am very proud to have led the team through what has been one of the most challenging times in our section. They are a team to be proud of.”

Evidence is constantly emerging and new medicines are being developed, so the guidance on Covid-19 medications is constantly changing. The pharmacy team has had to quickly adapt very quickly to these changes, to ensure that local patients receive the correct medicine, at the correct time.

Fiona Donaldson, Lead Technician dispensary Aseptic and Clinical trials, said: “Medicines play an important role in everyone’s health journey. The treatment of Covid-19 is no exception. I’m proud to lead a team working across dispensary, aseptic and clinical trials who have adapted and responded to the challenges that the treatment of Covid-19 presented.

“Each and every one of them has played an important part in ensuring that patients across Forth Valley receive the medicines prescribed for the treatment of Covid-19 as quickly as possible. This has, at times, involved ensuring these medicines are delivered directly to patients in their own homes.

“Our success, so far, has been due to a large team effort with a can-do attitude. As we continue to learn more about how best to treat Covid-19, our treatment options will likely change, and pharmacy will be ready to adapt to ensure local patients have access to the most effective treatment options.”
