Excellence Reporting is a fantastic tool to enable the organisation to capture details of individuals or teams who have gone above and beyond to deliver excellent services, including good patient care or experience.
This tool was initially trialled within Women and Children’s Directorate and has now been rolled out more widely to help recognise excellent work by individuals, teams, services, wards and departments across NHS Forth Valley.
This tool is available to everyone and, in case you have never used it before, here is a quick guide to how it works:
Select Excellence Reporting from the Quick Links when you log in to Safeguard.
There are 5 categories:
- Attention to Detail
- Communication
- Going the Extra Mile
- Knowledge
- Teamwork/Peer Support
Once you complete the online form the member of staff/team/department named will automatically receive an email with details of the report entered by their colleague. The relevant manager for the department highlighted also receives a notification and can add their own personal message.
Works is underway to set up automatic manager notifications for anyone not already in the system. A new dashboard has also been launched where managers can view the Excellence Reports for their department.
So now you know how to submit a report please take a few minutes to highlight and recognise the excellent work being carried out by staff, teams, wards and departments across the organisation. If you require assistance or further information, please contact the Safeguard Administrator fv.fvsafetyandrisk@nhs.scot.
Here are just a few of the examples of excellent work reported:
Communication – Violence and Aggression Training delivered by Ali O’Neill
“Ali was a fantastic trainer and very knowledgeable. She used humorous ways to help participants remember the breakaway techniques and answered all questions capably. Her feedback was also tailored to the work area, which made the training more meaningful. She is an absolute credit to the team and the trainer group for violence and aggression in NHS Forth Valley!”
Knowledge – Manual Handling by Laura Dingwall
“We required assistance with assessing the moving and handling of a patient with complex needs. I contacted the NHS Forth Valley Moving and Handling team in the morning as a matter of urgency, and they kindly arranged to come and do a joint visit with myself on the same day.
Laura Dingwall attended, and her professionalism, compassion and person-centred ethics shone through from the minute we began discussing the situation. She worked collaboratively with me and the independent trainer from the private care provider, and we managed to reach a consensus in a reasonable timescale.
Laura communicated very effectively and used evidence-based decision making and backed this up with legislation vs policies etc. This has significantly improved the patient’s experience and has educated the private care provider too. Many thanks again Laura.”
