Rising Awareness Onscreen

The lifelong impact of adverse childhood experiences on health and behaviour was highlighted at the screening of a short documentary, which was hosted in Stirling by NHS Forth Valley’s Health Promotion Service in partnership with NHS Scotland.

The film, Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope shows that when children are exposed to such experiences, it can impact on their ability to think, interact with others and on their learning.

Action to address the impact and exposure to adverse childhood experiences (ACE) is identified within the strategic priorities of A Thriving Forth Valley, NHS Forth Valley’s Health Improvement Strategy, which is available to read on the NHS Forth Valley website. This screening helped to raise awareness among a wide range of professionals and help inform how work to support those affected is taken forward in Forth Valley.

It is hoped that further screenings will be held in the area in the coming months.
