After months of meticulous planning, Forth Valley Royal Hospital was officially opened on 6th July 2011 by The Queen, continuing a remarkable tradition of official hospital openings in Forth Valley by members of the Royal Family.
Her Majesty visited the oncology department where she met patients receiving chemotherapy, and then moved to the therapy gym to see patients exercising as part of their cardiac rehabilitation. Meanwhile, Prince Philip was invited to watch our famous ‘robots’ at work in their own exclusive network of corridors delivering supplies such as meals and laundry to wards. This innovative technology, which was the first of its kind in a UK hospital, attracted worldwide media interest and hit the headlines from Japan to Jakarta!
The Royal visit engendered much excitement with staff vying for a glimpse of The Queen as she unveiled a plaque in the atrium and signed the visitors’ book.
