Stepping Out For Mental Health

For someone who detests exercise, Laura Neill, a Clerical Officer in Radiology, set herself a big challenge, to walk 10,000 steps a day during July 2021 in memory of her uncle Gary Nicol.

Gary tragically took his own life on 10th July 1998, aged just 26, with no warning signs. He had been looking forward to attending T in the Park and had always been outgoing but unfortunately no-one knew how much he had been struggling.

Laura says she wanted to honour his memory and raise money for Falkirk mental health charity FDAMH who provide a wide range of services and support for local people and their families. She feels mental health is particularly important at the moment due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

FDAMH have already been in touch with Laura to say thank you for choosing them. Her efforts after just six days of walking topped more than £600 and the final total raised was £915.
