Surviving Puberty

15

Community Sexual Health Educator Joanne Barrie has collated new guidance for parents and carers on how to prepare for – and survive – puberty in young people with a learning disability.

Puberty can be a difficult time for many youngsters; add in the factor of a learning disability and a difficult situation can seem almost impossible to manage.
The new booklet is for parents, carers or anyone involved in supporting a child or young person with additional support needs through growing up. Topics included are based on common questions and concerns raised by local parents/carers and the information has come from a range of sources – local and international research, creditable websites, good practice by parents, teachers and professionals in Forth Valley.

The guidance is available to download from our website at http://www.centralsexualhealth.org/professionals/asn-learning-disabilities/
