Virtual Reality Film Stars!

Hollywood came to NHS Forth Valley recently when a number of staff took part in a day of filming at Forth Valley Royal Hospital and Falkirk Community Hospital.

The project was undertaken in partnership with NHS Education for Scotland and Skills Development Scotland and is part of an initiative aimed at promoting the jobs available within the Support Workforce throughout health and social care in Scotland.

Staff from various areas across NHS Forth Valley, HSCPs and Serco joined together to showcase their roles as they were filmed by a wonderful crew from Animmersion. Animmersion have turned the video footage into an interactive virtual reality experience for young people that allows them to immerse themselves into the working day of some of our support staff and get a feel for what their job entails.

Staff enjoyed talking about how they ended up in their roles, why they’d recommend them, and what makes them smile at work. Although nervous at first, it was soon clear that all were naturals in front of the camera – some not even requiring more than one take! Our star-studded line-up of staff included:

  • Connor Harley – Recruitment Team Leader
  • Sonia Kavanagh – HSCP Business Manager
  • Janet O’Connor – Catering Team Leader
  • Ian Aitken – Electrician
  • Amanda Guest – Domestic Assistant
  • Gillian Strang – Immunisation Service Administrator
  • Natalie Thomson – Porter
  • Leah Yurtsever – IT Modern Apprentice

Rachel Tardito, Equality, Diversity and Wellbeing Lead, said: “The World of Work project is now completed and we’re super excited to see the results. Everyone involved was massively impressed and I would like to thank all of the staff who participated for their time, passion and skill.

“We would also like to thank NHS Education for Scotland and Skills Development Scotland for including us within this brilliant piece of work. And finally, the team from Animmersion for all their hard work.

The virtual reality footage will now be used at schools and careers fayres to promote NHS Scotland career opportunities in a wide range of support services.
